Work Outs So Far

So I've managed to keep up with my workouts... not the full work outs mind you because I'm too big at this point to go too long without getting sick.

I did 15 minutes on the elliptical on Monday, and another 20 yesterday. The ability to add 5 minutes each time feels REALLY great. Knowing that if I keep up with it, things will progress makes me really happy. I'm hoping that as I start to burn weight off, I'll be able to go swimming and to the gym to start working on my strength training. I want to start meeting with a personal trainer again too.

We'll see how things go.

Wish me luck!

Tomorrow

Tomorrow I start my routine, my three days a week, working up to five days a week, to prepare me for life in the armed forces. I'm going to pick up protein powder this week and make smoothies in the morning to help keep my energy up through the day instead of having caffine, which, as of tomorrow, I'm cutting out of my life completely. It's going to be hard, I'm a total Dr. Pepper addict. And junk food. It's really quite depressing to think about >.<

But that's all... just thinking outloud... or out-font rather lol.

Why I Chose the Armed Forces AND my new routine

I'm a fairly outgoing person. I have multiple piercings, tattoos and my hair hasn't been it's natural colour since I was about 15. I'm not exactly the type of person one would expect to see in the armed forces. I think that may be part of the reason I chose it. As always, I picked the last thing anyone would expect.

But the major reason I chose the armed forces is because I believe in what they do here in Canada and around the world. I'm currently studying photography at Vancouver Institute of Media Arts, which is why I chose the imaging program in the army as a potential career choice. I've spent a lot of time researching what's involved and there's a chance to get right into the action and photograph what's happening at ground zero, something I'd never get the opportunity to do otherwise, photojournalism being such a competitive industry.

I want a chance to get into hard situations and take images that I believe in, to help people and bring those images to the rest of the world. Not only is it going to give me an opportunity to do that, but it will also be a great chance to get myself in shape while I prepare for basic training.

My Routine:
My routine will be 3-5 times a week, starting at 20 min. of cardio and working my way up to 60 min, as well as including muscle strength training that will start with 15 minutes and again, work up to about 60 minutes. I need to be able to achieve 9 push ups (my goal is 15) and 15 full sit ups (my goal is 30) as well as be able to do chin ups and run 2.4 km in under 15 minutes. There is a track by my house that I will be running on once I've lost some weight so my knees can handle the stress of the run.

I am extremely excited about where this will take me and can't wait to see what life looks like from inside the forces!

Introduction

Welcome!
This blog will be a documentation of my journey towards the Canadian Armed Forces. Starting now, I will discuss my career choice within the forces and the work I'm doing to prepare for application and basic training. I will also post favorite images from the forces (which will be explained) as I progress towards my goals.

I am working towards a career as an Imagery Technician (that is, a photographer) within the Canadian Army. Like all other members of the armed forces, I have to attend basic training and am leaning towards starting in September of 2011.

That's all for today, wish me luck.
